Who Developed Footgaming?
Judy Shasek spent
nearly two decades teaching before developing the ExerLearning® and Generation FIT
processes. She has pioneered interactive and ground-breaking
fitness trainings since the early days of
“aerobics.” Her mission has been to tie physical
activity to the K-12 learning environment while harnessing the
expertise and energy of the most challenged students to lead
and manage the programs. Designing a synthesis of education and
fitness that dramatically impacts youth fitness and academic
success, she produced the popular, innovative program:
Generation FIT ®. Brain research and technology caught up
with that mission over the past three years. Shasek developed the patented FootPOWR
peripheral (with brilliant Kevin Colburn of 3D Innovations)
in order to provide “exergame” benefits to
thousands of existing computer games, casual games, virtual
worlds and educational software.
What’s ExerLearning®? Teachers need easy to use tools that deliver results. Schools need fitness tools that can be obtained via reading, math, Title I and technology budgets when PE budgets are not enough. Shasek will provide field results showing that video games plus physically active input (FootPOWR peripheral) can deliver students better prepared to learn. Research supported by PopCap provides evidence that such “casual” gaming can address the unique needs of some of our most challenged learners, including those with ADD/ADHD. The full press release is available on the PopCap website. Background on ExerLearning is available at http://exerlearning.blogspot.com
Being actively engaged, while standing and balancing and playing a casual game, forces one to use the brain in multiple ways. No matter what our age or where we use our computers, FootGaming can provide valuable benefit to both mind and body.
Shasek is a member of ISTE, the International Society for Technology in Education and CGA, the Casual Games Association.

PopCap Games
provides some of the most popular casual games on the planet.
The game play genius and attention to every detail in sound,
graphics, and player-experience is just one reason we are
delighted to link Footgaming to PopCap Games. A careful
exploration of the many reasons people play casual games and
the benefits of that play has been a top priority at PopCap.
Surveys, quantitative research and broad applications with
their casual games have provide insights to everyone interested
in this genre. Please check through the extensive
testimonial pages at PopCap.com in the PRESS area.
Wahoo Films has created all
of our video projects and we hope to build our collection over
the years. In time we are certain there will be a true
documentary story that evolves from the world of Footgaming.
Michelle Alvarado and the team at Wahoo Films will be the ones
to deliver.
