Chuzzle Chase

chuzzle.jpgThere's nothing like a rollicking cartoon character tied to a compelling casual game to get kids interested in active learning.  We created Chuzzle Chase for grades 3-8.  The best part is: Every time a teacher enjoys this project with a class there will be new ideas, changes and creativity popping up as quickly as Chuzzle matches.  Once you SUBSCRIBE  to the website you can CONTACT US  with your own ideas.  We can team you up with another class ro school for more long-distance, 21st Century learning fun.

Please take a look at our description of "Why Play Chuzzle."  Kids love the game, but the learning branches from the fun into easily customized activities.

First of all, be sure you have installed your FootPOWR peripheral and understand the logging capability.  Every step a student takes with the FootPOWR pad is logged and counted as steps and miles. (Learn Logging Now)

Integrating physical activity into the learning process is just one aspect of the Chuzzle Chase.

Introduction: Hook up your FootPOWR peripheral to a computer that can display in a large screen or white board. Install Chuzzle.  Be sure your students are provided a Log In name so they can immediately begin collecting "Steps to the Capitol."  Demo the game and the physical activity your students are performing.  Be sure to have them notice balance demands and eye-tracking/patterning required by the game.

DSC00098.jpgOverview:  Your class will calculate how far it is from their school to the state Capitol (Google Maps or MapQuest).  After they observe a 10-15 minute session fo Chuzzle the Footgaming way they can calculate how long it would take in "FootGaming" steps to travel all the miles to the Capitol.  They will likely realize that they will have the best chance of actually getting to the capitol if they travel in Chuzzle Teams (see How Far to the Capitol?)

1. Students love the Chuzzle - ask if any would like to draw their own Chuzzle, name it, add accessories and legs/feet so it can be a FootGamer.  This is usually a popular activity. chuzzles2.jpg

2. If there are other classes at your school or in a nearby city, you may want to race to the Capitol or create collaborative activities.

3.  Since you will be going to the Capitol, it might be a great time to talk about your actual governor, and create a Gov Chuz character. (see Governor Chuz activity)

4. It is easy to customize this activity to align with social studies, geography, math and creative writing objectives you already have.
