Aligning FootGaming to Standards

In 2002 NCLB was put into effect with each state defining a set of standards in both content and achievement in reading/language arts, mathematics and science that must be aligned with assessments in the same subject areas for grades 3-8 and high school.  FootGaming doesn't impact the Content Standards but it can be very effective in supporting educators' efforts in Academic Achievement Standards.

Academic Achievement Standards describe how well the students are acquiring the information and skills as defined by the content standards and measured by the state assessments/tests.  For many students, year after year, a crucial element to learning success is missing.  Research points again and again to the critical importance of regular and daily physical activity within the learning environment to meet the brain and cognitive needs of learners.

What Does Exerlearning Deliver?

• A highly respected study found that doubling the amount of time for physical activity in PE or in the learning environment over a two-year period did not harm academic achievement, and may have boosted reading scores1
• According to the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, evidence indicates that time spent in physical activity does not decrease learning in academic subjects.  Youth who spend less time in other subjects to allow for regular physical activity have been shown to do equally well or better in academic classes. 2
• Several studies suggest that providing more time for physical activity (by reducing class time) can lead to increased test scores, particularly in the area of mathematics. 3
• Classroom-based physical activity integrated into science, math, history, or other subjects has been successfully implemented through several programs, including Generation FIT.  The data suggests that these types of breaks for physical activity can help children to be more focused, less disruptive, and better able to learn. 4
